The Health Sciences Collection is used as a means of grouping all catalogued material related to health and medicine at the University of Toronto. This thematic collection encompasses material from affiliated health faculties. This currently includes material from the Faculty of Medicine and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, It could, in future, incorporate a large collection at the Faculty of Dentistry, material at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, and possibly caches of material at other health faculties as well. It also includes material at affiliated hospitals, especially when that material is associated with faculty and programs directly linked to the University of Toronto.
The Health Sciences Collection includes material donated by individual faculty and staff members or their families. When large enough, such donations encompassed individual collections. Donations of individual items or very small collections may sometimes be catalogued within belong collections that are not themselves explicitly health or medicine-related. For instance, several items donated to the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST) over recent decades are health related and are cross listed under the Health Sciences Collection. Relevant health-related items contained within other collections will also be cross listed within the Health Sciences Collection.
Detailed descriptions are provided for the individual collections comprising the Health Sciences Collection on the “Collections page”.
