The Temerty Faculty of Medicine Collection consists of artifacts pertaining the the history of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. This page lists all such artifacts, however the linked pages below list particular collections and caches of artifacts.
- The collection includes a number of artifacts formerly belonging to a collection of texts, photographs, and artifacts gathered from the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research (BBDMR). Much of this material came from the “Bridge Museum”, an exhibit that was formerly located between the Banting and the Best Institutes. When it was taken down in the early 2000s, the material was placed in an archival room at the Faculty of Medicine. This material notably includes a number of locally manufactured biological medicines as well as memorabilia related to the insulin discovery.
- The Cardiovascular Sciences Collaborative Program (CSCP) has a small artifact collection related to cardiac surgery that was gathered by Dr. Wilfred Gordon “Bill” Bigelow (1913 – 2005). After his death, the collection was donated to the the CSCP, where it is currently on display. This includes a number of early heart implants and prosthetic, as well as surgical instruments and memorabilia.
- A small collection of prosthetic artifacts donated by Dr. Allan Gross, orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Sinai hospital.
