Jowlabar

Professor Paul Jowlabar acquired a substantial of historical artifacts from the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry by saving important items from disposal. He donated his collection to the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST) in 2017.

Professor Jowlabar had a remarkable career at Chemical Engineering, beginning with the position of Storekeeper in 1982. Over subsequent years, he took on a number of different positions, eventually joining the Unit Ops lab, which he supervised beginning in 1990. He retired in 2017 as Associate Professor after a long and distinguished career of teaching and mentorship.

Most items in this collection were acquired on December 4th, 2017 from Professor Jowlabar’s home.

Artifact 2017.che.6, a three way ball valve created in 2011 by students in Professor Jowlabar’s Chemical Process Design class. This artifact embodies the hands-on teaching approached that Professor Jowlabar brought to students at the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry.
