The object consists of a metal aperture in the shape of a rectangular box. On each long side of the box is a brass clamp which may be tightened or loosened according to a scale marked on the bottom edge of the instrument. Two knobs on a short side of the box, each marked with a numerical scale, control these clamps. On the upper side of the box is a thick, rectangular metal plate supported by two metal rods affixed to the main box. In the centre of this same upper surface are two smaller adjustable dials.
