A deep blue metal case is sealed by two metal band clamps (one of which is missing). There are two ports on the rear surface of the lower portion of the case. Both ports are sealed with a removable red plastic cover. The case has an inner rubber seal.
Within the case is a reel-to-reel tape deck with a “Garrard Magazine” tape in place. Beside the tape deck is a row of removable electronic cards. Nine of thirteen sockets have cards in place. In a hollow above the tape deck are three threaded plugs that match the ports in the case.
An additional “Garrard Magazine” tape was acquired with this artifact.
Accession Number: 2024.ph.887
Alternative Name:
Primary Materials: Iron Alloy
Written in dark in on the lid of the instrument: “GP-TR-3B”.
A white label in the inside edge of the lower part of the case reads: “SER. NO. 631”
Dimensions (cm): Height = 16; Width = 39; Length = 36
This is a data recording instrument that uses a proprietary magnetic tape format. Its sealed case suggests that it was developed to be used in marine environments.
One of the metal strap clamps is missing. The remaining strap is extremely hard to close and has been left open to avoid damage. The blue finish on the exterior surface is damaged in small places, especially around the edges and guides for the clamps.
