This is a collection of items donated by Dr. Allan Gross, orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital on 14 April 2025. The donation was made during an interview that was part of a research project, conducted by Erich Weidenhammer and sponsored by Associated Medical Services (AMS), into the material culture of prosthetics across several domains.
This small collection includes several items related to Dr. Gross’ specialization in revision arthroplasty. It also includes a remarkable collection of cow bone and/ or ivory implants related to research by the eminent Canadian surgeon and University of Toronto Professor of Surgery, Dr. William Edward Gallie (1882-1952).
This small collection is part of the broader Temerty Faculty of Medicine Collection and is stored in the Temerty archival room.
