A narrow, reflective metal artifact, with four slightly offset countersunk screw holes along (approximately) the upper two-thirds of its length. The lower end terminates with four points arranged laterally like the tines of a fork. There are three gradations marked above the tines and below the lowest screw hole.

Writing on the surface of the artifact is difficult to discern. It may read: “DOWN J// ENGLAND// 5″ x 3/16″”

Dimensions (cm): Height = 13, Width = .5mm.

Function:

This spline is a type of surgical fixation used when doing an femoral osteotomy. Before the development of artificial hips, such fixations were used during operations on the femur to realign the hip.

Condition:

This artifact is in good cosmetic condition. It has light wear across its surface. Writing on its surface is difficult to read.
