Pipette Shaker (Clay Adams, “Yankee”)

An instrument with a cube-like form with a grey anodized finish. At the top of the instrument is a pipette holder with a blue finish and a semicircular form. On the front of the instrument is a mechanical timer with an adjustable stop to set the timer to either thirty or forty-five seconds. An electrical cord is attached to the rear of the instrument. Four suction feet at the base of the instrument secure the instrument to a table surface.

Function:

A pipette shaker is typically used in hematology to ensure an even distribution of cells in a blood before performing a blood count. .

Condition:

This artifact appears to be complete. There are small areas of rust on various metal surfaces.

Provenance:

The Mount Sinai Pathology Lab collection was transferred from a display case on the 6th floor of Mount Sinai Hospital (600 University Ave. Toronto, On) over several days in mid-December 2020.
