30° Arthroscope (Concept)

An arthroscope with a narrow back coloured eyepiece. The short body of the arthroscope has a fibre optic port attached horizontally. The narrow stem or the arthroscope terminates in an angled tip.

There is an orange band around the port for the fibre optic cable. A band of blue tape is also wrapped around the port. A second patch of blue tape is placed near the eyepiece.

Function:

An arthroscope is in optical instrument for viewing the interior of a joint during a surgical operation. Its development made possible minimally invasive surgery for many knee operations. It significantly improved diagnoses and healing times for many knee conditions. Specialized arthroscopes may also be used on smaller joints

Condition:

This instrument is in excellent cosmetic condition.

Provenance:

The Robert W. Jackson Arthroscopy Collection was acquired by the University of Toronto from Dr. Jackson’s family on November 12th, 2020.

This instrument was received in a plastic bag containing several Concept optical instruments (2021.JAC.118-122).
