A large metal hip implant consisting of a stem and femoral head forming a single part. The upper portion of the femoral stem is broader than the lower portion and is meant to replace a substantial portion of the proximal femoral bone. Two holes, meant to facilitate removal, pass through this broader portion of the implant. A narrow segment below this upper portion is designed to be implanted into the remaining femoral bone.
Marks on the surface of the implant indicate that it was removed from a patient.
Note: This item remains with the Department of Orthopaedics at Mount Sinai Hospital as it is used for patient education.

This is the femoral component of a large revision prosthesis. It is used when there is significant damage to the proximal femoral bone, likely following a tumour excision. The broader portion of the implant replaces this portion of the femur.
This item is intact and in good condition. There are marks at various points on its surface, especially around the head. These are the result of removal from a patient.
